BESA Technical Bulletin TB61 – Duct Identification
BESA released a new technical bulletin concerning identification of ductwork on Monday 8th September. The new guidance is available to download free of charge at: TB61 Identification of ductwork

BESA state “With the increasing complexity of ventilation and air conditioning systems, it is important to ensure the ready identification of ducts for the purposes of commissioning, operation and maintenance of these systems. The purpose of the following recommendations is to lead towards the use and standardisation of a system of identification for ducts, that will benefit designers, contractors and clients.”

“This updated BESA guidance revises the previously used categories and identifying colours, with enhanced definition of conditioned and extract air streams. Use of grey as a colour identifier has been removed to allow for an alternative symbol that provides greater contrast against neighbouring insulation and ductwork materials.”
TICA members are reminded that pipe identification is already covered under BS 1710:2014 “Specification for identification of pipelines and services”. This standard is available to all TICA members via the BSI Knowledge Portal. Please contact Chris Ridge at cridge@tica.uk.com if you wish to discuss the new BESA Technical Bulletin or if you need to arrange access to the BSI Knowledge Portal.
