TICA has recently developed 2 additional routes to verify competency when applying for a TICA Skill Card. These additional routes have been specifically designed for longstanding, experienced thermal insulators, who, for whatever reason, have not had the opportunity to complete either a TICA apprenticeship or another formal thermal insulation qualification, required to obtain a TICA Skill Card.
There is a strict eligibility for registration on these qualifications as follows:
- Verifiable proof of a minimum of 20 years continuous experience working as a thermal insulator that commenced prior to 1998
- All applicants must provide evidence of their experience of installing a variety of insulation materials, coverings (which must include metal cladding) and specifications
- Level 3 applicants must also provide evidence of their metal fabrication experience.
The information provided by candidates as part of the application process will be robustly scrutinised and references will be requested and interrogated thoroughly.
Completion Certificates will be awarded by IETTL following both internal and external verification of the assessment evidence. Evidence will be collected as part of the accreditation process which will include a practical examination under test conditions which will provide photographic and video evidence of competency together with a professional discussion. The evidence provided will then be mapped to the appropriate National Occupational Standard – either Level 2 fit protection or Level 3 fit protection and metal fabrication.
The L2 candidates will be required to insulate and protect a standard pipe rig using 2 types of insulation, chosen by the individual and install metal cladding PLUS 2 other finishes chosen by the individual.
The L3 candidates will be required to insulate and protect a standard pipe rig using 2 types of insulation, chosen by the individual. They will also fabricate and fit metal cladding from existing templates to the following:
- A 90 degree elbow
- An offset piece
- A tee piece
- A cap end
- A radius bend
- Straight casing
- A reducer
The L2 and L3 Accreditation Assessments commence at 08:00 and will take a full day to complete.
The cost of the qualifications includes registration, internal and external moderation and verification, assessment by qualified and experienced professional assessors, materials, and Certification.
The 1 day Accreditation is held in Darlington at the National Training Centre and can be arranged by downloading, completing and returning this form.
If a candidate fails to achieve the required level of practical competency they will be provided with details of the L2 NVQ qualification.
L2 Accreditation – £400 plus VAT
L3 Accreditation – £500 plus VAT
