Construction Leadership Council (CLC) agreed that from January 2015 the industry, including trade associations, contractors, clients and government should specify and promote card schemes carrying the CSCS logo with no equivalents accepted.

Review the card types and requirements below, then apply for your CSCS approved ACAD Skill Card.

Applications will be processed within 5 working days of receipt. If the application is incomplete, we will contact you for further information.

If you have not received your card, or been contacted by us within 10 working days from the date of application, please contact the Skill Card Team.

We will not be accepting postal application after 30 June 2019.

Skill Card Prices

Physical Card – £36 (inc VAT)

Virtual Card – £26 (inc VAT)

All Skill Card applicants will automatically receive (if required) a Virtual Card free of charge. All prices are subject to change

Skill Card types and requirements

The full range of Skill Cards are available as physical AND virtual cards. You can select one or both at the payment stage. If you have already been issued with a physical Skill Card and would also like a virtual one, please call the Skill Card helpline.

Licensed Asbestos Skill Cards

If you are new to the Industry or have less than 3 years’ experience then the red Trained Worker ACAD Skill Card is the one for you.  This lasts for 3 years during which time you must obtain your relevant NVQ otherwise there will be no replacement card available.

If you have more than 3 years’ experience then the red Experienced Worker ACAD Skill Card should be selected.  This requires you are registered on the appropriate NVQ to obtain the card that lasts for 12 months during which you must complete your NVQ.  Failure to do so means there will be no card available after the 12 months.

Once you are qualified with the appropriate NVQ then you can apply for the renewable blue Skilled Worker ACAD Skill Card or the gold Supervisor ACAD Skill Card.  These can be renewed every five years.

Surveyor and Analyst Skill Cards

ACAD, BOHS, FAAM (Faculty of Asbestos Assessment and Management) and NORAC (National Organisation of Asbestos Consultants) have formed a collaboration to deliver a new skills certification card, displaying the CSCS logo, to Asbestos professionals.

If you are new to the Industry without a qualification then the red Trainee Worker ACAD Skill Card is the one for you.  This lasts for 12 months during which time you must obtain your relevant qualification otherwise there will be no replacement card available.

Once you are qualified with the appropriate qualification then you can apply for the renewable blue Skilled Worker ACAD Skill Card or the gold Supervisor ACAD Skill Card.  These can be renewed every five years.

Virtual Skill Card

ACAD Apprentice – Licensed Asbestos

Validity: 3 years. No renewal.

Card requirements:

Registered on Asbestos removal apprenticeship programme

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

ACAD Trained Worker – Licensed Asbestos

Validity: 3 years. No renewal.

Card requirements:

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA New or Refresher Operative Training Certificate within the previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

ACAD Experienced Worker Card

Validity: 1 Year. No Renewal.

Card requirements:

Registered on L2 S/NVQ in Asbestos removal AND

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA Operative Refresher Training Certificate within previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

Note:  Trainee card holders cannot then gain an experienced worker card or vice versa.  Holders need to obtain their relevant qualification and progress onto relevant skilled worker/supervisor cards.

ACAD Skilled Worker Card

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Card requirements:

NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos AND

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA Operative Refresher Training Certificate within previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport
  3. Completed the NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos within previous two years

LICENSED CARDS – SUPERVISORS

Trained Supervisor – Licensed Asbestos (typically less than 3 years’ experience)

Validity: 3 years. No renewal.

Card requirements:

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA Supervisor Refresher Training Certificate within previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

ACAD Experienced Supervisor –
Licensed Asbestos (typically more
than 3 years’ experience)

Validity: 1 year. No renewal.

Card requirements:

Hold NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos

AND

Registered on L3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision

AND

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA Supervisor Refresher Training Certificate within previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport
  3. Completed the NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos within previous two years

Note:  Trainee card holders cannot then gain an experienced worker card or vica versa.  Holders need to obtain their relevant qualification and progress onto relevant skilled worker/supervisor cards.

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Card requirements:

NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos

AND

L3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision

AND

ACAD/IATP/UKATA/ARCA Supervisor Refresher Training Certificate within previous 12 months

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport
  3. Completed the NVQ L2 Removal of Hazardous Waste (Construction) – Licensed Asbestos within previous two years

  4. RSPH L3 in Asbestos Air Testing and Clearance procedures

AND

Hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

ASBESTOS SURVEYORS

Apprentice – Asbestos Surveyor

Validity: 3 years. No renewal.

Card requirements:

Registered on Asbestos Analyst apprenticeship programme

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Trainee –Asbestos Surveyor (Red card)

Card requirements:

Hold valid certificates in ONE of the following routes:

  1. BOHS P402
  2. BOHS S301 AND Oral
  3. BOHS W504 AND Oral
  4. RSPH L3 in Asbestos Surveying

AND hold valid certificate in ONE of the following:

  1. Passed the CITB HS&E Test within the previous 2 years
  2. CCNSG Safety Passport

All application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.  If your application is incomplete or unacceptable you will be given 90 days to resolve any issues.

Any applications returned after 90 days will be subject to an additional £36.00 non-refundable fee.
