TICA Skill Card

Construction Leadership Council (CLC) agreed that from January 2015 the Construction industry, including trade associations, contractors, clients and government should specify and promote card schemes carrying the CSCS logo, with no equivalents accepted.

Employer members and operatives should apply for the relevant Skill Card online, by completing the application forms and uploading proof of qualifications and payment.

Asbestos Awareness Training

All TICA Skill Cards include the requirement for the applicant to have received adequate Asbestos Awareness training (or higher).  This can readily be obtained from commercial training providers that are members of the IATP or UKATA.  In addition, you can obtain Asbestos Awareness e-learning directly from TICA for £15.

TICA Replacement Skill Card

If you have lost your TICA Skill Card or it has been damaged you can purchase a replacement card here.

If your CSCS Card has expired you must apply for a new TICA Skill Card.  If you require a replacement CSCS Card, please contact CSCS. 

TICA Apprentice Card

Validity: 4 Years. No Renewal. Free of Charge to TICA Apprentices.

For TICA apprentices who are currently registered on a Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship AND hold valid certificates in:

  • Asbestos Awareness

Plus ONE of the following:

  • A current CCNSG Safety Passport
  • Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, assessed by TICA
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives (within the last 2 years)
  • The Offshore Oil & Gas Industry Minimum Safety Training Standard – MIST (within the last 4 years)

TICA Experienced Worker Card

Validity: 1 Year. Non Renewal.

For experienced workers who have not completed a S/NVQ Thermal Insulation qualification or a TICA apprenticeship and/or who missed the opportunity to join the scheme by Industry Accreditation (Grandfather Rights).

This card will be issued on receipt of proof the applicant is registered and actively undertaking a L2 S/NVQ in Thermal Insulation.

Following successful completion of the S/NVQ candidates must complete a TICA two day Practical Skills Assessment.

Applicants must also hold valid certificates in:

  • Asbestos Awareness (TICA offer this for £15, click here if required)

Plus ONE of the following:

  • A current CCNSG Safety Passport
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives (within the last 2 years)
  • The Offshore Oil & Gas Industry Minimum Safety Training Standard – MIST (within the last 4 years)

 

TICA Skilled Worker Card

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Issued on receipt of proof the applicant has successfully completed ONE of the following routes:

a) TICA L2 Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship

TICA Apprentices must have completed the 4 year Indentured apprenticeship before being eligible to apply for the Skilled Worker Card

b) TICA Thermal Insulation L2 S/NVQ

c)  Non-TICA Assessed Thermal Insulation L2 S/NVQ AND successfully completed a TICA two day Practical Skills Assessment

d) Non-TICA Assessed Thermal Insulation L2 S/NVQ AND successfully completed a TICA Level 2 Competency Assessment (prior to 2023)

Applicants must also hold valid certificates in:

  • Asbestos Awareness (TICA offer this for £15, click here if required)

Plus ONE of the following:

  • A current CCNSG Safety Passport
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives (within the last 2 years)
  • The Offshore Oil & Gas Industry Minimum Safety Training Standard – MIST (within the last 4 years)

TICA Advanced Craft Card

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Issued on receipt of proof the applicant has successfully completed ONE of the following routes:

a) TICA L3 Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship

TICA Apprentices must have completed the 4-year Indentured apprenticeship before being eligible to apply for the Advanced Craft Card

b) TICA L2 Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship which included Fabrication completed prior to August 2014 (Evidence required is fully signed and dated Indentures or Apprentice Completion Certificate)

c) TICA L2 S/NVQ in Thermal Insulation with Fabrication unit (achieved prior to 31 August 2017)

d) Non-TICA Assessed Thermal Insulation L3 S/NVQ AND successfully completed a TICA two day Practical Skills Assessment

e) Non-TICA Assessed Thermal Insulation L3 S/NVQ AND successfully completed a TICA Level 3 Competency Assessment (prior to 2023)

You must also hold valid certificates in:

  • Asbestos Awareness (TICA offer this for £15, click here if required)

Plus ONE of the following:

  • A current CCNSG Safety Passport
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives (within the last 2 years)
  • The Offshore Oil & Gas Industry Minimum Safety Training Standard – MIST (within the last 4 years)

TICA Supervisor Card

Validity: 5 years. Renewable.

Issued on receipt of proof the applicant has successfully completed ONE of the following routes:

a) L3 Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship (from 2014 onwards)

b) L2 Thermal Insulation Apprenticeship AND L3 S/NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision

c) TICA L2 S/NVQ in Thermal Insulation AND L3 S/NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision

d) Non-TICA Assessed L2 S/NVQ in Thermal Insulation AND successfully completed a TICA two day Practical Skills Assessment AND L3 S/NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision

e)  TICA Level 3 Competency Assessment (prior to 2023)

f) L2 OR L3 TICA Accreditation Certificate AND L3 S/NVQ in Occupational Work Supervision

You must also hold valid certificates in:

  • Asbestos Awareness (TICA offer this for £15, click here if required)

Plus ONE of the following:

  • CITB SSSTS (with at least 6 months validity)
  • A current CCNSG Safety Passport
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives (within the last 2 years)
  • CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Managers and Professionals (within the last 2 years)
  • The Offshore Oil & Gas Industry Minimum Safety Training Standard – MIST (within the last 4 years)

All application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.  If your application is incomplete or unacceptable you will be given 90 days to resolve any issues.

Any applications returned after 90 days will be subject to an additional £36.00 non-refundable fee.

TICA Practical Skills Assessment L2/L3

 

Candidates who have undertaken an S/NVQ L2/L3 outside of an apprenticeship programme (as a standalone qualification) will be required, as part of their Skill Card application, to complete a two day Practical Skills Assessment.

At Level 2 the assessment will allow you to demonstrate the skills you will have developed working as a thermal insulator and will consist of the application of a variety of insulation and finishes. At Level 3 you will also be required to develop and fabricate sheet metal casings and various fittings.

Why are TICA no longer offering the NVQ route to competency? 

Candidates who have undertaken an S/NVQ L2/L3 outside of an apprenticeship programme and as a standalone qualification will be required as part of their Skill Card application to complete a two day practical skills assessment.

At Level 2 the assessment will allow you to demonstrate the skills you will have developed working as a thermal insulator and will consist of the application of a variety of insulation and finishes. At Level 3 you will also develop and fabricate sheet metal casing and various fittings.
