HSE Licence Renewal
ACAD was the first major trade association in the Licensed Asbestos Industry to offer a dedicated service to help our members prepare for their Licence renewal with the launch of the Pre Licence Renewal Assessment (PLRA).
During the PLRA our experienced team conduct a mock Licence interview with your senior management team who would traditionally have been involved in a face to face Licence renewal assessment and report any potential gaps or areas for improvement.
A PLRA is best conducted around six months prior to Licence expiry to give you time to rectify any issues or put in place new systems and is offered with two reporting options.
Electronic Licence Renewals
HSE wrote to Licence holders late 2018 to inform them they will be piloting a new approach to Licence renewals for those with licence expires on or after 1st April 2019. The review via this method is more detailed and in greater depth than those previously conducted with a view to making renewal assessments clearer and more efficient process in the future.
To continue to support our members ACAD has developed our Electronic Licence Application Review. This desktop review of your completed Licence renewal application offers suggestions for improvements to your answers and evidence base prior to submission to HSE.

2022 Revision to Renewals
HSE have contnued to evolve the Licence renewal process and ACAD continues to represent members via the Asbestos Network Licensing Working Group which is chaired by those inspectors devleoping and undertaking Licence renewal applications.
The new approach is expected to be a slimmed down verion of the previous renewal form (version 7.2) focussing on site performance as observed by HSE inspectors and the two recurring questions:
- Anything that has changed since you were last assessed?
- How you have successfully addressed any issues that arose out of a previous inspection / assessment?
“From our point of view the level of support from ACAD was excellent by way of dummy licence renewal assessment. During this process we went through 2 levels of assessment from the excellent and very knowledgeable assessor. Initially a full HSE type assessment was undertaken and points for consideration and improvement were logged. From this we were able to review some of our systems and areas for improvement prior to the second assessment. When ACAD returned the meeting went very well and improvements were evident during the process. This service helps to identify any issues likely to be covered during a licence renewal, this service can also be tailored to new start ups seeking to gain their first licence.
