ACAD Remote Training Delivery:  The New Norm

The situation we all find ourselves in has undoubtably accelerated the gradual evolution from traditional, face to face training delivery models to the new remote delivery model.  As the Covid-19 situation continues into the Summer, it seems likely that social distancing measures will be required for many months meaning remote training delivery has rapidly become the new norm for HSE Licensed Asbestos refresher training.

ACAD has led the way supporting our growing membership by switching our training calendar from traditional venues to remote delivery in mid-March.  With refresher training at all levels available every working day, ACAD is pretty much delivering on-demand refresher training to the Licensed Asbestos Industry.

Remote training delivery is not to be confused with e-learning, in fact when you compare the characteristics of remote delivery against face to face it’s virtually impossible to tell them apart.

  • Delegates can see other delegates
  • Delegates can listen to other delegates
  • Delegates can speak to other delegates

And crucially…

  • Delegates can share experiences with other delegates
  • Delegates can ask questions of other delegates
  • Delegates can learn from other delegates

Were we describing face to face training or remote delivery training?  Hard to tell isn’t it…?

Many organisations are following Government advice and maintaining their training of furloughed workers in parallel to those who have been able to continue working.  Here are the thoughts from one ACAD member, Chirmarn, via their Operations Manager, Abbey Walsh.  They have received refresher training through ACAD for operatives, supervisors and managers.

“The booking process is really straightforward, and we received the confirmation and joining instructions really quickly.  All our lads have given me really positive feedback, it’s fair to say some of them were a little hesitant about doing it this way but we’re all totally bought into it now.” advised Abbey.

Describing her own training session Abbey said, “There were lots of visuals, just like a classroom and they were delivered by a great trainer, really knowledgeable, she held my attention throughout the course”.

Looking to the future Abbey commented “From a business point of view it’s a win win win situation.  The lads are receiving great refresher training, there’s none of the down time, costs and hassle you get with travel to venues and ACAD have reduced their fee to just £120 [plus VAT] to support members like Chirmarn.  I’m totally converted.”

Graham Warren, ACAD Manager commented “The feedback for face to face ACAD training is always a pleasure to read and it’s no surprise that the delegates benefiting from our remote training delivery are equally complimentary.  Just this morning I took a call from a guy who had been on our supervisor refresher training who just wanted to say how much he enjoyed the training and was surprised at the high level of engagement and interaction that took place compared to his previous experiences elsewhere.  It was his first experience of ACAD training, I guess it won’t be his last.”
