I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed as Chair of the British Standards Institute B/540/7 committee (Thermal Insulation for Equipment and Industrial Applications). The Thermal Insulation industry has been subject to additional guidance and codes of practice such as CIBSE CP1 Code of Practice for Heat Networks. It is evident that the array of standards, guidance documents and codes of practice often serve to confuse specifiers and contractors alike. The construction sector faces huge challenges and we all have much to do to ensure that Net Zero targets and competence requirements are met. The thermal insulation industry must play its part and we can ill afford the confusion that currently exists.

Our main objective will be to ensure that standards such as BS 5422 and BS 5970 reinforce good practice and strong specification with a clear focus on our national Net Zero targets and competence drive. I will also be looking to ensure that a consistent approach between the aforementioned standards and relevant additional guidance can be achieved and maintained.
