Build UK remains as committed as ever to reforming PQ and are working hard to deliver the next phase of the new system which is the data sharing solution.  This will enable Contractors and Clients to obtain key PQ data on their suppliers from any Recognised Assessment Body, regardless of which one carried out the certification to the Common Assessment Standard (CAS), meaning they will no longer need to specify a particular assessment body for their supply chain.

This is a particularly complex phase of the project, and Build UK are currently putting in place an agreement with the Recognised Assessment Bodies to support the data sharing solution.  Once completed, it can begin rolling out and the first Contractors should be in a position to update their PQ requirements before the end of the year.

The Government is working with the construction industry to create a ‘Construction Playbook’, similar to the existing Outsourcing Playbook, which will provide a consistent approach to the procurement of publicly‐funded projects when it is published later this year.  Crown Commercial Service is very supportive of the CAS as the industry PQ scheme, and Build UK is working with Government and the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) to ensure it is recognised as an approach that public sector authorities can use.

 Following the successful launch of the CAS last year, the first major review has been undertaken to ensure it remains relevant and up to date.  The changes, which have been agreed by a dedicated working group and confirmed by the Interim Cross Industry Body, will be introduced in two stages.  Version 1.2 was published on 1 September 2020 and extended the revised assessment standards for certain questions to all micro‐businesses.  Version 2 which will include a number of changes to the question set to reflect current requirements and changes due to Brexit is planned for release on 1 January 2021.
